5 out of 5 stars A gold mine for smart racers!   November 24, 1998

This book shows you how to use math to make your car perform better on a road course, the strip or the street. I learned how to see engines, torque curves, gearing etc. in an entirely different way. I can make changes with confidence that I am going in the right direction. If you can work a calculator, you can use this book!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE   June 7, 2002

IF YOU HAVE A LOOSE COLLECTION OF AUTOMOTIVE FORMULAS THAT YOU TRY TO KEEP UP WITH, JUST GET THIS BOOK. THERE ARE MORE FORMULAS THAN YOU'LL EVER USE IN THIS ONE BOOK. YOU DO NEED TO HAVE A MECHANICAL UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THESE FORMULAS ARE FOR AND HOW TO APPLY THEM, BUT YOU AIN'T GOTTA BE NO ROCKET SCIENTIST.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent handbook   April 16, 2008

many thanks.it's an excellent book with a lot of mathematical equations inside and short and clear base explanations, based on the physics.
It's not real engineering book, but very close to the university mimeographed.
I'm really satisfy with it and would recommend it to purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting for the math-challenged, but needs revision   February 14, 2003

As soon as I got this book it grabbed me: it even has the history of the word, "horsepower!" There are many useful formulas here, all presented clearly and in layman's language. However, some of the material is dated; there are several pages devoted to programming your computer to figure out the answers to the formulas, and the author says that he has included a section to help in adapting the program to a computing favorite, the Commodore 64! Hmmm, I wonder if my old one still works? That he even mentions this computer is odd, considering that the book was published in '93!

But overall, I like most of the book, and I'm sure it will come it useful as I rebuild my LT1 engine...

Been around a long time, this book is a quality reference for the mechanic or junkie who wants a little more from his experience around engines and cars, or, who wants to expand their ability and knowledge. Clear and easy to find what you're looking for.
