This study provides the analysis of results of IDC's Manufacturing Insights' most recent survey carried out in Western Europe.
The survey is based on 284 interviews with discrete manufacturing firms in Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, and Spain.
The aim of this study is to understand how IS budget spending and distribution is developing among discrete manufacturing enterprises in Western Europe, and how it supports the leading business initiatives.
This report is part of a series of studies, which includes:
IT vendors' selection criteria and level of satisfaction Analysis of business solution adoption and investment plans "Despite the ups and downs that the manufacturing industry has been subject to in the past few years, the good news is that, overall, the majority of discrete manufacturing respondents to our surveys foresee an increasingly positive business outlook," said Pierfrancesco Manenti, EMEA research director, Manufacturing Insights. "Nevertheless, the vast majority of the IS budget today is still spent on supporting routine infrastructure upgrades or pure maintenance, rather than supporting new or ongoing initiatives. This picture won't change over the next 12 months, and Manufacturing Insights expects to see a further slight decrease in spending to support new strategic applications."
