Not nearly enough information July 12, 2008 Allison Martinez (San Antonio, TX United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this book to help me review for my TExES exam, and I was pretty disappointed with the material. The English portion of the exam covers the stages of literacy and how to teach struggling readers, but this book doesn't cover any of that. A good chunk of the book contains "testing tips" such as: "Eat breakfast before taking the test," and the good old "Pace yourself" tip. If you have grown up in the state of Texas, you know how to take a standardized test, so that section of the book is useless. The portion of the book that covers history is pretty good. The ELA/SS TExES exam is lengthy and contains lots of information, and this 200 page book(let) barely covers it all. If you really need help studying for this exam, you'd be better off buying a full-length study guide for the English Language Arts and Reading test, and another full-length study guide for the Social Studies test.
