From the supplier: The innovative Computer Literacy Project at the McKeesport campus of Penn State Univ is successfully expanding the computer literacy of incoming freshman students. Many of these students, who come from varied backgrounds, start out with poor composition and grammatical skills in addition to little knowledge of computer usage. The project calls for students enrolled in Freshman English to attend sessions at the computer center. The goal is to familiarize these students with the campus computer network as well as the rudimentary usage of the Wordperfect word processing software package. Students began the training with resistant attitudes, but found that the computer was a valuable tool that boosted productivity in writing assignments. Response so far is favorable, and plans are in motion to expand the project to include spreadsheet and data base utilization.
