I've spent thousands (ok probably tens of thousands) of dollars on information about how to make money online. If you're like me, you already know that 99% of the stuff out there is garbage.
This book is different. Google is obviously a real website with a real opportunity. Joel simply shows how to capitalize on that opportunity.
If you have an existing website, AdSense is a REAL way to monetize the content you are already providing. It's not a matter of smoke and mirrors, its just a matter of knowing how to use AdSense in the right way to squeeze the most income out of your pages.
As for some of the comments I've seen about "filler" content... I wouldn't call it that. Sure there's a good 30-40% that is covering fundamentals that would not be new to experienced AdSense publishers... but that is stuff that new AdSense publishers need to know. Plus that leaves a big % of "advanced" technique content which is covered in this book.
Also I saw someone mention about how it seemed to be a lot of self-promotion. I could see how it would seem that way, but here's the thing... He is showing REAL LIFE examples of money-making websites. Most guru's are afraid to show you their REAL sites because they're scammers or because they won't reveal their true secrets. Joel puts it all out there. Also I'd estimate over half the examples are his STUDENT's sites, not his...
Over all I'd say the book lives up to its name. Not the kind of thing I'd want to cozy up and read for fun by the fire on a cold day, but if you're looking for easy-to-digest info about how to monetize websites, this is a good pick.

This book is a concise guide on how to make money online using Google Adsense. It cuts to the chase and tells you what to do, how to do it and when to do it.
I applied the information in The Adsense Code and began making money (albeit not a lot) the very first day I added adsense to my blog. But, by continuing to apply the tactics laid out in the book, my adsense revenue has increased virtually every day.
The book lays out in a very specific and detailed manner what you need to do to implement Google adsense, how to maximize click throughs and how to set up adsense to generate the most revenue.
This book is great for beginners or advanced users of adsense. Joel explains many ways to use adsense and places to include adsense that I'd never considered.
An added bonus is that the book also gives you many new ideas for generating new traffic to your blog or website.
This book is a must for every serious internet marketers bookshelf.

Google Adsense provides a great opportunity for anyone with a website or blog to monetize their effort. There are a thousand ways of implementing Adsense, and that's where the confusion lies. With all the options available, what works best?
Joel's book demystifies Adsense and provides no-nonsense advice that can help you move the decimal point a few spaces to the right in your revenue. This isn't rocketscience, but he makes it easy to get a headstart with Adsense with techniques that have been proven successful. I know, I've followed his advice and reaped the rewards.
You could collect this knowledge yourself, scouring the Internet, testing and trying various things until you learn through experience. Or you could save yourself a lot of time and get this book. It will easily pay for itself in no time.

I hate doing book reviews, actually I hate creating content as it is not one of the things that comes naturally to me but I just can't help but give credit to wher credit is due. Joel's book has had a direct effect on what I am doing with my online marketing efforts. Every once in a while I will buy a book that I think will take me to the next level with my online efforts. Hey it can never hurt to learn a few things and it is always better to learn what doesn't work before you try it. I consider myself an above average Adsense user and I figured that Joel's book really wouldn't help me that much but I was wrong. Let me explain.
If you know anything about me you will know that I harp that Joels E-book Adsense Secrets is a must have, it took my sites to an unheard of level way beyond what I thought I could make.When I heard Joel was coming out with a real book I said to myself that I didn't need no stinking book to tell me what I know already. Boy was I wrong!
After following my sites for only a week I could see that I was causing my own sites to actually pay less. I did something that caused my click thru's to pay less that what I should be getting. That in itself paid for the book and more. I felt complacent with what I was already earning from Adsense and that right there was my first mistake.
I don't want to go into details about what I changed but imagine if your income suddenly doubled as mine has. Sometimes learning what not to do is as important as to what you should be doing. I forgot to use Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad - Poor Dad lesson #1 which is learn from your mistakes . Anyway, what I like about this book is the same thing that I like when I am reading something online and that is short paragraphs packed with a lot of information. Before I knew it I had read all 228 pages. I wonder if Joel made the book this way on purpose since he knows how people glance at a page online.
I had the privalege of meeting Joel out at affiliate summit in Las Vegas back in January 2006 and I talked to him for a few hours. I thought he really knew his stuff but I was wrong as I only got to see the tip of the iceberg. Once again if you are using Adsense this book is a must have.

I read the book in an afternoon, made a list of tips that were appropriate for my website and applied them to 10 high traffic pages of our 900 page website. My Adsense revenue doubled. I am slowly going through and applying the tips to every page and the revenue keeps growing.
Sure, you can sift through thousands of posts on Adsense forums to get these tips, you can also sit and do your own A/B tests with color combinations, format sizes, placement, etc...
Or you can buy this book.
The book is a bit heavy on the self promotion and you don't *need* any of the tools that the author is pushing.
What you do need is a functioning website with good content and lots of traffic for this book to work.
I'm giving the book five stars only because it is the first book in a long time that has put money directly in my pocket.
