2008 the best December 15, 2007 Carolyn Falconer (Upstate, NY) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
These books are so much fun to read. You can read all night or just for 5 minutes, and be enthralled. The 2008 is one of the best editions yet.
Quirky, fun December 26, 2007 J. Marren (Glen Ridge, NJ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the perfect gift for families of readers, Trivial Pursuit players, curious teens, and more. It's the kind of book you pick up on a sleepy Christmas afternoon after dinner when conversation flags. Good for all ages with lots of great pictures. Great price here on Amazon. Serious pursuers of fact can try the more sedate Schott's almanacs Schott's Miscellany 2008: An Almanac (Schott's Almanac), but for the light-hearted, this book is perfect.
Guinness World Records 2008 January 2, 2008 K. Cook (bay area) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
At 8 and a half, my daughter is obsessed for whatever reason about this book and about 99 percent of the things in it. She keeps checking it out of her school's library so to see it wrapped up (thanks Amazon) under our tree was just exciting for her to say the least. Again, I don't know why, but this book I just have to give rave reviews because the light of my life can't get enough of it. The great colorful photos and large print adds to it all I'm pretty sure.
A Classroom Favorite November 4, 2007 Jason Roy (New Hampshire) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Firstly, as many of the reviewers have noted, this book is for browsing, it is not an exhaustive list of every record ever achieved*. That being said it is a great book for browsing. I add the new version to my classroom library each year and it is always the most reached for book. Kids are always sharing some of the crazy facts with me and each other and will occasionally even take their curiosity beyond the book to look something up elsewhere. The binding is a bit weak for this kind of use (my 2004 edition is on its last legs) but otherwise highly recommended. *Note: You can still buy the old version (the paperback list of all the records) if you prefer -it's available from Amazon here: Guinness World Records 2007 (Guinness World Records)
Guinness has done it AGAIN says my 9 year-old son! January 2, 2008 Erika Lyn Smith (Missouri) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My nine year old son ASKED Santa for this book for Christmas and was VERY excited to get it on Christmas morning. He loves the bright red sparkly cover and immediately placed his hands around his eyes and tried to squish them to the cover to see if it "glowed in the dark." The facts for the world records continue to be amazing and outrageous, just what any super energetic little boy wants to read and dream about in his youth. Perhaps on day I will see my son's name on one of those pages. The book is captivating, holds his rapt attention for long periods, which is difficult for almost anything to do, considering he is so impulsive, and rarely sits still for any length of time. My son and I recommend this book for any one who has a fascination for the facts of world records that people have personally managed to accomplish over the years past and present. The ideas people have come up with to decide to do to make a world record is also fascinating and amazing, and kind of like the wild frivolous law suits of the current era most of the world records are ones I would NEVER, COULD never imagine on my own, lol!
