Product Description
A collection of working paper models to cut out and make. As the mechanisms are operated, the hopping sheep hop energetically and the pecking hen pecks into its feeder. The motley man bows and acknowledges the applause he has earned and the flying fish flaps and undulates its wings. Each of the mechanisms uses a different principle to generate motion.

I bought this book for a young boy. I just loved it myself. Nice to have children do something besides video games.

5 out of 5 stars amusement for the easily amused   September 11, 2008

Four paper models ... all you need is an X-acto knife, scissors, a glue stick, and a lot of patience and spare time.

Hopping sheep: like the valvetrain of a single overhead cam engine, except that the tappets make sheep hop up and down instead of actuating valves.

Pecking hen: simple to build but not very interesting.

Motley man: complicated for what it does (he just takes a bow.)

Flying fish: has to be seen to be believed. Looks like it's simultaneously swimming and flying when animated.

4 out of 5 stars Great fun and rare paper model book   August 23, 2007

These four working models are simple to make and a lot of fun to operate. The mechanisms are cams and levers and the resulting models are easy to use and, especially in the case of the flying fish, have unexpectedly fluid movement. One small complaint I have (and the reason for the dropped rating) is that the pre-printed colors are very bright and not always appropriate to the model.
