Medical School Micro Review March 26, 2006 Joseph J Grenier (Aurora, IL United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am using this for USMLE review. There are plentiful mnemonics and cartoons in the book which help a great deal with memorization. This could be the best review book in the Ridiculously Simple Series. It has definitely helped me. The exam is still pending and therefore I cannot judge this based on my score. You cannot base your sole Micro preparation on this one book alone. You will have to have BRS Microbiology or NMS Microbiology along side this. You may need Zinsser on occasion. The good thing about this book is you can work through it quickly compared to some of the other books. When I receive my score I will further preface my remarks here. This is a good starting point however.
excellent review for clinical microbiology January 14, 2006 W. D. Dotson (Georgia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book for anyone who is learning, or needs a review of clinical microbiology. The book covers clinically relevant groups of bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites and even prions. The tables covering bacterial groups are especially helpful, having columns for: organism, reservoir, mode of transmission, metabolism, virulence, toxins, clinical manifestations, treatment, and diagnostics. While intended primarily for med students, those in nursing, med technology, and even those taking an undergraduate medical microbiology course will probably find this book useful and even fun. I am not a big fan of the style of cartooning they use, but if even a few of the drawings stick in your head and help you remember the material, then I have to say they are worthwhile. This is an excellent resource that is reasonably priced. Highly recommended reading.
Micro Can Only Be Learned Through This Book July 2, 2000 Nicolas Melgarejo (Bogota, DC Colombia) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
You can go to class, or you can read a big fat ugly book, and still you won't learn about micro bugs until you buy this book. AN EXCELLENT REVIEW on almost all of the important bacteria, fungi, virus and parasites. The toons are very funny (and you keep them in your head all your life ). And for learning the basics on antibiotics it is wonderful. This book has helped me in the most desperate conditions (impossible exams), and believe me, YOU GOTTA HAVE IT !
Don't use it alone, but great supplement May 15, 2006 Traderjohn (Glendale, AZ United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really like this book as a supplement to Rapid Review's Micro & Immuno. CMMRS can be read while taking the course to get the major points and some memory aids along the way (ditto with FirstAid). It actually tries to make Micro fun, and does a better job of that than other Micro book I've seen. But I wouldn't use it as your Step 1 review book.

This is a great book to supplement a medical school class. The tables at the end of each chapter are amazing and will really help out on exams if you can commit most of that information to memory. I know that sounds like a lot, but by the end of your medical micro course, you'll understand what I mean.
