Excellent for people with rusty math skills March 23, 2000 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
A really useful guide, if, like me, you have not done math for a while. Covers useful material in a good level of depth. Also an excellent source of practice questions. In my opinion, a great deal better than the Princeton Math Workout, which spent too much time on ways to "crack" the test rather than actually teaching you how to do the math. The Kaplan Guide is much more focussed on the latter.
As good as they come! February 14, 1999 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is a fine book. I am currently using the book for my own review of the math that was taught to me 9.5 years ago. I find that the book provides a great format of reintroducing or even educating its student(s) in the areas of Arithmetic, Algebra,Word Problems,Geometry, and Data Sufficiency. Math takes alot of practice and this book provides one with plenty of practice within each sub-section through basic, intermediate, and advanced problems. The best supplementation for additional problems, for me, has been the 9th addition of the Official Guide For GMAT Review written by the Graduate Management Admissions Council. It is organized by category- Arithmetic, Algebra, Word Problems, Geometry, Data Sufficiency, Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, Sentence Correction, and Analytical Writing. Also the questions presented here are real GMAT Questions! So my suggestion is to learn the concepts Kaplan teaches in their GRE and GMAT Math Workbook, work their example problems followed by working additional practice problems within the Official GMAT Review for an even more real experience . I am partial to Kaplan's organization thus I would like to see them produce a comprehensive workbook of real GMAT problems as a supplement to the GRE & GMAT Math Workbook.
Excellent workbook December 20, 2001 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book helped me to improve my math score. Not only does it give a detailed review of math concepts, there are plenty of math problems to do with complete concise answers. It helped me, I am sure that it can help anyone!
This book is very good, but do not SOLELY rely on it. March 8, 2002 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I took the GMAT exam for the second time yesterday, and I can tell you that this book was very helpful. When used correctly, this book can help you increase your quant score - it is the most efficient study guide to review math concepts. (Strangely enough, I saw a question on my GMAT that was the exact same as a question in this book!!) If you have not had any GMAT prep, I would recommend the Kaplan GMAT book AND CD ROM, plus the ETS GMAT questions book and CD software. These are your core study tools. The Princeton Review CD ROM is good for more CAT exam practice. Kaplan material is usually a bit tougher than the actual GMAT, and the ETS CD ROM should be used to get familiar with what you'll see on test day and to boost your confidence.I hate to say this, but there is an element of luck involved in the kinds of quant questions you get. My first GMAT exam was a disaster because I felt I was 'ambushed' by the math section, but in my test yesterday I felt great about the quant section - and I think this book played a role. Don't let the GMAT intimidate you. You will need to be in the right frame of mind, and doing all the practice tests and improving your weak areas will lead you to success!
An excellent book for practicing the math problems September 15, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is a great investment if you want to practice the math problems for GMAT. Solving the problems in this book gets you up to speed on GMAT math. Since its getting more and more difficult to get into good schools for MBA, every single point counts. Why miss out on even one? So practice, practice and practice.
