Product Description Renowned for its clear writing style, organization, level and depth of content, and excellent color illustrations, this reference covers the collection and analysis of urine, fecal specimens, vaginal secretions, and other body fluids such as cerebrospinal, synovial, seminal, amniotic, pleural, pericardial, and peritoneal fluids. It covers all aspects of fluid analysis from basic factual information and essential techniques and procedures, to easy-to-grasp explanations of how data is correlated with the basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology to understand pathologic processes.
- More than 120 photomicrographs are pictured beside their textual explanations to ensure maximum comprehension and understanding.
- Extensive diagrams and tables throughout the text clarify concepts and reinforce content.
- Discussion of each body fluid includes the physiology of formation, its composition, diagnostic importance, and the clinical procedures frequently performed.
- Various pedagogical elements such as chapter outlines, learning objectives, key terms, case studies, and study questions reinforce the most important information in each chapter.
- The chapter on Quality Assurance and Safety (Chapter 2) focuses on the importance of following established lab protocols and guidelines in the clinical lab.
- A glossary of scientific terms appears in the back of the book for convenient reference to succinct, accurate definitions.
- A unique, new chapter on Analysis of Vaginal Secretions covering wet mount preparation, evaluation, and disease correlation.
- A urine sediment image glossary containing over 90 images that serves as a visual reference for identifying cells, crystals, casts, and other elements at the microscope. In addition, these images are almost exclusively of unstained sediment using Brightfield microscopy - the technique most frequently used in clinical laboratories.
- Case studies at the end of relevant chapters to assist in applying key concepts to real-life scenarios and test reader knowledge.

excellent book for medical technologists March 20, 2006 Brenda C. Mullins (Anchorage, Alaska) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Even though it has been many years since we had decent books, this one is exceptional both with urines and other body fluids. My manager wants to use it for other clinics. I am a cytotechnolist and medical technologist and the photos and descriptions are great. We are going to use this here at work, even though I personally own the book.
Excellent Reference. November 5, 2006 Christine McElwaney 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is an excellent reference. It's good for brushing up on what you've forgotten or if you're learning something new.
Good Pee and Body fluids Book August 8, 2008 Daniel Schwartz This book offered a good look into the world of UA/Body Fluids. The instructor that I had for this class used the book and she told us it was all factual knowledge that would need be known for the Registry. Overall, this book lays out the key components that are needed to complete a good examanation of UA/Body fluids laboratory.
Amazingly fast delivery November 4, 2008 S. Li (Chicago, IL) I was expecting to receive the book in two weeks, but amazingly someone knocked my door and handed the package to me the next day! Very happy customer.
Great book for student MT's December 8, 2006 Schadenfreude (Salt Lake City, UT) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The explanations of test method principles and disease processes in this book are straight to the point and in a language that is usually understandable on the first read. The images are decent although the format of where the images are located is a little strange with some being in the chapters and others in the back. The only major thing I do not like about this book is the almost tissue thin paper which can be very highlighter unfriendly in many cases.
