My son, who is in Kindergarten, has just finished this workbook. He loved it, we are now moving to the 2nd grade book. He is now a very confident beginning reader. I love this series.

5 out of 5 stars first word book   August 7, 2005

My son likes this book very much. It collects 100 basic sight-words and provides vivid exercises for them. Kids remember those words forever after the fun study. My son's interest is high and is eager to explore more. I hope the author had put more words and pages. To continue the learning, I find Beestar's weekly practice very nice (www.beestar.org). Its word challenges are just about right. My son is doing fairly well thanks to the nice start from this book. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars actually got my son to put a pencil to paper...   May 18, 2007
Mom to a Five Year Old
My son who is 5 and a half, and a fairly avid reader, is not the type to sit and spend time writing, or doing boring rote and repetitive workbooks. With this book, he is eager and happy to work for about 30 minutes at a time. There is a nice mix of writing, coloring, drawing pictures, matching exercises, word searches and crossword activities to keep the book interesting. My son attends a non-didactic kindergarten, so I will use this book and the "100 words for 2nd grade" to prepare him for grade 1. I agree with the previous reviewer that this book is ideal for a kindergartener, and the grade 2 book is more appropriately targeted to a first grader.

5 out of 5 stars Great book   June 8, 2007
Aubrey Barajas (Cotati, CA)
I found this book very helpful during our summer to keep my kids active with work. The workbook is layed out nicely and is helping my children prepare for the upcoming school year. It is simple to use and has some fun activities. This is the second time I have purchased this book and I also got one for 3rd grade. Love it.

5 out of 5 stars Great for learning to spell   March 24, 2008
Melissa J. Newman (Elizabeth, NJ United States)
I brought this book to help my 7 year old learn the spelling of sight words. He already knows how to read these words through other books. In this book there are a lot of writing exercises with colorful pictures. There are also other activities, for example coloring and reading. The presentation is great for not only learning to read and write these words, but also how they are properly used. For example, boy and girl are presented together along with he and she. Has and goes are presented together. "The boy has a sled. He goes to the hill." Although I had originally purchased the book to teach my son to learn to read, I did not like it as much for that goal. Instead I used Dolch Sight Word Activities: Grade K-1, Volume 1 and Spectrum Dolch Sight Word Activities, Volume 2 (Spectrum Dolch).
