A good book - perfect for my 2nd grader December 27, 2004 Sherry Wu (Houston, TX) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A good vocabulary cannot be achieved over a short time. Young kids need to learn and read extensively to build their word base. This book is a great help. It organizes essential grade 1-3 words in 7 groups, and teaches them with activities and tests. Its well-designed word questions help to clarify the right usage of related words that kids often misuse otherwise. My child used it for learning as well as for assessment. Very good contents. I guess due to lack of standard, this book is perfect for my 2nd grader. He finished it in 4 weeks. Word study should never stop. For similar learning, I found Beestar (www.beestar.org) very helpful, too. My child's vocabulary is improved quickly with such word drills.
Very educational July 21, 2004 J. L Schreiber (Fowler, MI United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 8 year old to hopefully teach her new words for the new 3rd grade year. I read all of the words to her and she already knew all of their definitions and she even could spell them. But as she did the book, it was a little more difficult for her. There are 13 about words per group and there are about 40 pages per group. So for 40 pages you use the same words in different ways, in stories, games, crossword puzzles, bingo, etc. They really get the point across and hopefully using words that many times will really imprint them into your childs head. I think they could have made it 200 words instead of just 100.
