5 out of 5 stars Great   May 19, 2002

I used this book for my single-variable integral calculus course and I must say it did an excellent job of teaching what the instructor couldn't. The problem sets are good, and if the solutions manual wasn't riddled with errors, the combination would be outstanding.

5 out of 5 stars Best Calculus Book I've Seen   December 4, 2006

My school uses Stewart's Calculus-- a very boring book with few challenging problems which is also poorly worded etc. I finally asked a professor which book is the best calculus book on the market. She gave me this one and, as I said in the title, this is a great book! As someone else posted, you aren't going to learn the calculus by scanning some pages; what you get out of your studies is proportional to how much effort you put into studying. This book offers a maximal constant of proportionality!

So, if you like the calculus and your current book doesn't discuss theory or is too elementary, buy this book. Or if your current book is poorly worded, buy this book. If you don't want to do work, then buy this book and tell yourself to stop being lazy!

Amazon does a great job at sending new items. The book was in perfect condition and original wrapper. The edges were of course intact for the way they boxed it.
Mailed as quickly as promised (1-2 business days for amazon prime).

4 out of 5 stars hefty...but pretty good   July 9, 2003

I like this book because it has an excellent format and a logical progression of topics (quite standard). It has answers for every other question and provides NUMEROUS each of section questions as well as end of chapter questions, of various degrees of difficulty.

The explanations and expositions are clear and concise and should have you understanding most of the material with some thought and effort. Because let's face it: no book will learn for you or magically transform itself into your ability without some effort (however much or miniscule) on your part. I find mathematics fairly easy (I'm an engineer), so this book was quite good because some of the questions do take a bit of time (some challenge is always good!). A few of them are VERY difficult, though I've yet to run into one that is by my worth unsolveable. But this is dependent on your mathematical ability.

Altogether, not bad and will teach you introductory calculus and multivariable claculus with some useful appendices as well, including some complex numbers (but not enough). Damn thing weighs about 10lbs though...:)
