5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book...Highly Recommended   September 7, 2007

As a technical literary overview of physics, I bought this book after first reading a similar one entitled "The Story of Mathematics." Both are excellent examples of a gap being bridged between "technical sciences" written by technical writers who are thoroughly familiar with their subjects, and even more importantly, have an extremely creative method for imparting that wealth and depth of complex knowledge through literary representation.

Both books cover the historical, political and social aspects of mathematics and sciences in a clear and understandable manner for the casual reader, as well as the seasoned scientist/mathematician.

Both begin a historical approach, leading to more complex theories and exquisite explanations of those theories and developments, as well as creating an deeper understanding for readers who are interested in basic theories of more complex and progressive theories, such as Quantum Physics.

The most appreciative aspect of these two publications, is in their authors' abilities to clearly describe and define complex mathematical and/or scientific theories, especially in regards to higher interpretations of what these discoveries have meant to mankind. The authors address scientific and mathematical examples by exemplifying these progressions and developments in regards to technological advancement. They offer far more precise explanations of these advances than are usually even available in most math and science textbooks. Their expertise shines through in technical writing through their unique ability to translate highly complex and detailed material for both the layperson and the student.

The Story of Physics thoroughly covers theories and historical progression of particle physics, quantum mechanics and theory, nuclear physics, cosmology and atomic theories, all with great attention to technical detail in descriptive information that even a layperson can understand with relatively little understanding in actual technical representations.

The excellence of this book is found through the authors' abilities to translate highly technical information into understandable bites and explanations for the layperson or student who may not normally be involved in the field, but wish to grasp a deeper understanding of complex theories.

I especially recommend this book to students in the fields of math and science, as the information contained in both books will quickly and simply prepare ANY student for very technical aspects of study and research, especially in relation to the historical progression of such knowledge and theoretical building blocks necessary for technological advancement.

5 out of 5 stars The easiest way to high level physics, as ever published!   September 7, 1999

This book is for the person longing for real concepts and deep understanding about physics with ease and without mathematical scatters(!),

and more for he who wants the deep meaning of far more advanced mathematics, eg. hamitonian, lagangian,,,,etc (in fact, I lost this book, So I 'll buy it again!)
