Incredibly colorful, but overwhelming for a first-time math workbook. March 29, 2007 Isabella I give this three stars, because though this book is incredibly colorful, it is overwhelming for a first-time math workbook. Without a Teacher's Edition, a homeschool parent could never teach all the concepts perfectly like the book describes it to be taught. Good parts of the book are the "Notes for Home" at the bottom of each page. This allows parents to follow along with what their child is learning, and suggest at-home activities to reinforce the day's lesson with. If you are really interested in the mainstream way of how math is learned, this is for you. The book is heavy for a first-grader, and I would not want to see my child carry it around every night in her backpack. Individualized extra practice books can be purchased for each state - unfortunately I was sent the one for North Carolina. So make sure you specify which state you are from to be sure to recive the correct one. Overall, it is a good book to have on-hand for extra math practice for your first grader.
