Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

Ideal as a reference or quick review of the fundamentals of linear algebra, this book offers a matrix-oriented approach--with more emphasis on Euclidean n-space, problem solving, and applications, and less emphasis on abstract vector spaces. It features a variety of applications, boxed statements of important results, and a large number of numbered and unnumbered examples. Matrices, Vectors, and Systems of Linear Equations. Matrices and Linear Transformations. Determinants. Subspaces and Their Properties. Eigenvalues, Eigenvectors, and Diagonalization. Orthogonality. Vector Spaces. Complex Numbers. A professional reference for computer scientists, statisticians, and some engineers.

3 out of 5 stars Theory heavy   June 24, 2004

I used this textbook as part of my linear algebra course at university. The positive aspects about this book is that it is well-written and the concepts are nicely presented. The practice problems at the end of each section are also quite helpful.

The primary drawback is that the book seems heavy on theory and light on practical applications. Also, the paper quality could be better. There is a yellowish hue to the white pages that puts more of a strain on the eyes unless one is reading with a bright light.

2 out of 5 stars A poorly written book   February 6, 2007

I use this for a linear algebra class. I found that the answers in the back of the book difficult to use and sometimes wrong. There are better books for this type of class.

A month after I placed my order, it still hadn't arrived. Via email, I contacted the seller, who never bothered to reply. Caveat emptor!
