Math teacher replies June 26, 2007 Mathew J. Arnold 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The book did a good job of giving examples and getting to the point. I took a class on the same material with a different book and this book won hands down. The questions are down to the point. They also have interesting facts on everything in the sides of the page.
Book's ok, class is useless July 3, 2008 Amanda 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I learned more from this book than I did from my instructor. But I still struggled in my stats class.
NOT for beginners! February 20, 2008 Eric Yeager (Hammonton, NJ United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been forced by my college to learn stats on a time limit using this book. Let me be clear, my instructor is only checking my papers, not lecturing. This is required text for self-study courses at my college. For students in my sitiation, or any situation where this book is a self-teaching tool, Bluman's text is awful. The equations are poorly explained and the examples frequently do not explain the problems in the assignment section. I cannot emphasize enough the concept that this book does not completely explain the problems or examples. It merely presents equations and features poorly explained terms. If you actually want to understand the terms and equations in this book, you need someone else to explain it to you. The CD ROM is complete trash, as it ONLY has database numbers that are already in the book. The CD teaches nothing and has no learning materials. If you are a math major or have had stats before, or have some great supplemental reading, this book would be nice because everything is sectioned off. If you are trying to teach yourself stats for the first time and you need a book that teaches the subject completely, move on.
incorrect Statistics September 1, 2008 Diane V. Dickerson (Georgia) I'm as far as Chapter 3 and there have been FOUR incorrect answers. This was a lot of money for inaccuracy.
