A must-buy for the SAT July 16, 2004 Ellen (Green Bay, Wisconsin) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Put these books at the top of your list for SAT critical reading and essay preparation. The examples included are better than the ones in the other books out there. The exercises are more meaningful. And these books are actually enjoyable to read. Don't waste your money on the big fat books that are boring and repetitive.
Better Than Kaplan... July 9, 2005 J. Patel (Albuquerque, NM, USA) 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
I paid more than $800 to attend a Kaplan course to prepare for the SAT and PSAT and I came out of it feeling like I had wasted my money. For any sane student who has more to do than flip through thousands of pages of nonsense this is the book for you. At first I felt that preparing for the SAT would be more difficult, but if you follow what the authors tell you, you will see almost immediate progress. For a money conscious person like me, I especially enjoy the multiple applications of this book, which means that it won't be sitting on the shelf after I get into college. I will definately use this book to help me in my writing in the future. A reasonable study program that won't bore you to death, What more can anyone ask?
The best prep book for the new SAT essay! March 10, 2005 R. Grasha (Colorado) 8 out of 13 found this review helpful
I was scarred to death when I heard about the new essay on the SAT. I bought this book, and it was a life saver! I would definantly recommend it to anyone looking for a great prep book for the essay on the new SAT.
Increase Your Score in 3 DAYS! May 28, 2007 Tango (Florida) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I, being a normal adolescent, tend to procrastinate. As the SAT was looming over me and steadily approaching in a week's time, I quickly searched for a quick and easy lifesaver and chose this book. 3 days before the big day, I scoured the contents and followed the tips. The result? A perfect score on the essay (which is odd considering I'm a terrible writer--thus I attribute my good grade to this book.) Now this isn't the "end all be all" to SAT essay books, but you do have to realize no book can really "teach" people how to write. Good writing comes from a combination of guidelines and tips (which this book provides), reading what the graders are looking for and "good" essays (which this book provides), and most importantly, practice (which only you can provide).
Definitely Worth Your While July 13, 2004 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
The SAT Essay and SAT Critical Reading books made me feel like it was actually possible to be successful in my test taking. Whereas the other study guides and test prep books I used did more intimidating than teaching, these books lay out what you need to know in a straight forward, easy-to-understand format. Forget all the fluff and lengthy explanations that are more trouble than they're worth. If you have four hours to spend studying for standardized tests every night for the next 3months, good for you. If you are a busy high school student who wants to do well on the SAT or ACT, and have a life as well, these books will do the trick. Oh yeah, they're really funny too.
