Quiz (Divisibility)

(1) Find the number of positive integers not exceeding 1000 that are divisible by 3 but not by 4.

(2) Use mathematical induction to show that divisibility quiz _gr_1.gif] is divisible by 5 for every positive integer divisibility quiz _gr_2.gif]

(3) Show that any integer of the form divisibility quiz _gr_3.gif] is also of the form divisibility quiz _gr_4.gif] but not conversely.

(4) Use the Division Algorithm to show that the square of any integer is either of the form divisibility quiz _gr_5.gif] or divisibility quiz _gr_6.gif]

(5) Use the Division Algorithm to show that the cube of any integer has one of the forms divisibility quiz _gr_7.gif] divisibility quiz _gr_8.gif] or divisibility quiz _gr_9.gif]

(6) Use the Division Algorithm to show that the fourth power of any integer is either of the form divisibility quiz _gr_10.gif] or divisibility quiz _gr_11.gif]

(7) Show that the cube of any integer is of the form divisibility quiz _gr_12.gif] or divisibility quiz _gr_13.gif]
