2nd Grade Math BooksMany 2nd grade math books cover the following subjects: number sense, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, and problem solving. Number sense, sometimes called number concepts, consists of the topics: counting and ordering up to 1000, counting and grouping of various sets of numbers, using place value to clarify the meaning of large numbers, and studying and applying inequalities. Further, by studying how to add and subtract large numbers using grouping techniques addition and subtraction is usually a main topic for 2nd grade math books. Multiplication and division is often introduced in 2nd grade math books including multiplication facts up to 12. Geometry topics often include identifying shapes and patterns in two and three dimensions and combining known shapes into new ones. Other topics of geometry are: graphing using charts and tables, making plots using coordinates, and identifying parts and whole of various figures. Further progress is made in exploring fractions by the continued use of graphs, charts, and problem solving.
